Netflix announces cheaper streaming plan with ads for BRL 18.90

On Thursday, Netflix announced its new “basic with ads” plan, a cheaper version of the subscription, which will include advertisements and commercials during use. The model will be launched on November 3 and will cost R$ 18.90 per month.

The novelty will be available in Brazil and in 11 other countries such as Germany, Australia, Canada, South Korea, Spain, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

This will not affect subscribers who already have the current “Basic” plan, which costs BRL 25.90. “The ‘Basic with Ads’ package complements the other ad-free options that already exist: Basic, Standard and Premium,” the company says in its official statement.

The new format comes six months after the company announced the idea of offering a more economical plan, with advertising. Netflix highlights the partnership with Microsoft in the project, and justifies the inclusion of commercials by the change in TV consumption, which is “happening at an ever-increasing speed, and streaming surpasses open and cable TV.”

“We’re confident that, with prices starting at R$18.90 per month, Netflix has a price and plan for all fans. This initiative is just at the beginning”, says the company.

What’s changing with ads?

Netflix explained that the new Basic plan with ads has the features of the Basic plan, including the same video quality (up to 720p/HD), the ability to watch on a variety of devices such as TVs, mobile phones and tablets, and the ability to change or cancel the plan at any time. moment.

The main difference is the 15-30 second ads, with an average of 4-5 minutes of ads per hour, which are always shown before and during streaming content.

In addition, the economy plan does not have the ability to download and will have a limitation: some movies and series will not be available due to “licensing restrictions”. The new plan can be chosen by new subscribers, as well as those who already have one of the other three options available.

THE Netflix announced this Thursday (13) a new package of services for the streaming platform. This is a cheaper plan than the traditional one, which will contain advertisements.

Advertisements will last from 15 to 30 seconds, and will be displayed as soon as the user clicks on the title, before the selected movie or series starts showing. The system is similar to the one used by YouTube, whose ads are shown before the start of the video.

The new plan will be introduced in 12 countries: Brazil, Canada, United States, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, Japan, South Korea and Australia.

The first countries to receive the news will be Canada and Mexico, and the plan will be available from November 1. Users from Brazil and other countries will be able to rent the service from November 3rd. In Spain, the package will be available to users a week later, on the 10th of the same month.

Netflix stated that the new plan will not affect current users of the platform who have a basic, “standard” or “premium” plan, only if they want to migrate from the contracted service.

The company announced that the ad-supported service will cost $6.99, which is lower than other packages currently offered, such as Basic ($9.99), Standard ($15.49) and Premium ($19.99).

Due to the contract, not all movies will be available in this new, cheaper package, but Netflix said it will “do its best to make almost the entire catalog available.”

“We think it’s a good time to add ads, the industry is ready for it and it’s a time of transformation that’s happening. It is a plan of different packages for users. We are proud to offer our customer base a package at a lower price.”

Like other plans currently sold by Netflix, the service can be used on computers, TVs, smartphones and tablets, with 720p HD resolution.
