Education made a step forward in modernization and entered the 21st century in less than four years

In less than four years, public education in Parana has definitely entered the 21st century, modernizing the structure of classrooms and implementing technological platforms and new disciplines that bring students closer to the learning process and connect them to the current world, without abandoning the tradition of teaching and the importance of teachers.

Mainly in the last two years, investment in technology used in the learning process has been one of the focuses of the state education network with the implementation of online educational platforms for writing, English and mathematics, which can be used by teachers to carry out activities, as well as freely by students.

The text production platform Redação Paraná, for example, was developed by technicians from the State Department of Education and Sports (Seed-PR) and works integrated with the teacher. Artificial intelligence corrects the structure of the language – grammar – and the teacher is responsible for correcting the discursive and subjective part of the essay prepared by the student. In 2022 alone (until August), more than two million essays were created and corrected.

Another platform that gains month-to-month membership is Inglês Paraná, which offers a complete online English course (via computer or mobile app), divided into 16 proficiency levels, from basic to advanced, with a proficiency test placing the student at the most appropriate level. In addition to the letter, it is also available to students of the 2nd elementary school (from 6th to 9th year) and high school students. More than eight million lessons were delivered this year alone, with each lesson having an average of five activities (such as vocabulary, grammar and expressions, for example) and each activity having four to six unique exercises.

The gamified math platform, aimed at younger students entering the network, in the 6th grade of primary school, is already used by 80% of students in the series, with 1.6 million tasks completed this school year, with the purpose of teaching mathematical concepts and operations to students through play. The investment in these last two platforms exceeds R$ 20 million.

“Education should be in constant evolution and that is what we are doing, integrating new technologies to improve teaching and give more importance to the student. These new pedagogical resources, linked to the learning of financial education, programming and robotics, for example, put our young people in excellent conditions for the future”, comments Governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior.

Last year, the state included Financial Education in the curriculum, and this year it launched Robotics Paraná, which will be expanded and included in the curriculum of some students next year. In addition, Edutech started teaching programming as an extracurricular activity last year, and already this school year it is part of the Computational Thinking discipline in the new high school – a total of 150,000 students are in direct contact with the world of programming. language schedule.

Infrastructure – In order to accompany this technological progress in the pedagogical part and support students and teachers, the state government has also invested in modernizing the structure of schools and classrooms.

At the end of 2021, Seed-PR delivered 10 thousand computers to schools in the state network. In addition to the procurement of equipment, the Department also distributed Wi-Fi equipment to all schools on the network, including 1,200 switches (a device that connects all devices on the same network) and 22,500 Wi-Fi access points. The total value of this investment was R$ 65 million and, with the exception of schools in rural areas without optical fiber, the connection speed was also increased to 100mb last semester.

Another novelty this year was the delivery of the Educatron kit, which consists of a 43″ smart TV, a computer, a webcam, a microphone, a keyboard with a mouse pad and an adjustable stand. The equipment, which has already been installed in almost all of the more than 22,000 classrooms, provides more conditions for teachers to conduct classes and can be used, for example, for the presentation of multimedia content in the classroom and for video calls with other teachers or speakers. The investment in the purchase of 25 thousand sets (including the technical reserve) reached R$ 122 million.
